Grammy Awards 2009: Dress Review

BEST DRESSED

Katy Perry, in Basil Soda with H.Stern and Jacob & Co. jewels. I wouldn't "kiss a girl", but I sure like her dress. Katy Perry was a surprise in this old hollywood, Marilyn Monroe style dress. It was my favorite of the night! She looks like she should be sitting on a cupcake!

Sara Bareilles, in Luisa Beccaria with Neil Lane jewels. Another vintage style dress, this 1950's confection is topped off with a red sash and shoes.

Le Toya Luckett is the third in a string of pretty pink dresses. Love this 1960's number, but I would have preferred a different choice of accessories.

Audrina Partridge, in Tadashi with H.Stern jewels. Audrina looks classically beautiful in this jewel tone gown. I even love the princess leah half-do.

Gwyneth Paltrow, in Versace with Chopard jewels. Gwyneth never misses. She tones down the sparkle with a simple cardigan.

Pastry clothing mini Moguls Angela and Vanessa Simmons. I like the unexpected belts the girls are wearing. Angela pairs a brown belt with this beautiful yellow chiffon asymmetrical dress. Vanessa adds a skinny belt to this cute white bubble dress.

WORST DRESSED

Jordin Sparks, in Debra Davenport. Ok, Jordin is not a size 2 and that's great, but the dress isn't. I can imagine a thousand other dresses that would have been more flattering. The all-over, busy pattern is just not working.

Paula Abdul, in Basil Soda. Ironically, my favorite dress (Katy Perry) and one of my least favorite dresses are by the same designer. This bright yellow color looks great on Paula, but the metal detail is too much, she looks swallowed up by it.

Paris Hilton, in vintage Versace. First of all, I am not sure you can call something vintage if it's only 6 years old. Secondly, this dress looks more like Victoria's Secret circa 1980's than Versace, 2003. If Paris was trying to be true to her media image, than she succeeded.

M.I.A., in Manish Arora and Gola by Christian Lacroix sneakers. Pregnancy is not an excuse for looking this bad. If you saw the show, you'll know that it only got worse when she got up to preform.

Estelle, in Bernard Chandran, with Halston shoes and Atelier Swarovski jewels. 3...2...1...blast off! Estelle will be the first R&B singer to land on the moon! What was she thinking with this over the top space cadet ensemble?!!!
