Some Things Are Better Bought New

This morning I took the girls to Nordstrom Rack.  It took us an hour and a half longer to leave than I thought and they both fell asleep on the way home, but we did it!  I have decided that I need to find a few things that fit my almost six week postpartum body that don't make me look like a lumpy sausage.  I can still wear the outfits I wore at the end of my pregnancy (I never wore any maternity clothes), but do I really want to wear the same five outfits that I wore when I was the largest I've been? No thanks.  Forget the clothes I wore before I was pregnant or even at the beginning of my pregnancy, things have definitely changed.  Not sure I will ever fit back into most of my clothes.  I remember feeling the same way after Ruby though and it eventually happened.
So after trying on 28 items, I found two that worked.  A sweater and a pair of jeans.  I don't love the way I look in them, but I don't hate it either, so I think that's pretty good.  After looking at the clothes, I ventured to the shoe section.  Here is where I start to feel good!  So many options...and I am still the same size!  I found this fabulous pair of Sam Edelman boots.  There is a lot going on with them and they take much of the attention away from my not-so-favorite parts, so I bought them!
As I was driving home, I was reminded of this boot debacle from last year.  I ended up not fixing them because I noticed later that the toe was also starting to wear at the top and I'd rather save my money to put into a pair of boots that would last.  I have a couple of vintage pairs that I like, but they just aren't as comfortable as new ones, I think because someone else's foot wore them in.  Though I like to buy most things used, I draw an obvious line with things like underwear (remember the year that I didn't buy anything new?) and a gray line with things like shoes and jeans.  I just have a hard time finding the right size, fit, style and quality with used, heck it's hard enough finding all these things in a pair of new jeans or boots.  What things do you have to buy new?
